FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

BIRTH SUPPORT

What is the difference between a doula and a midwife, and do I need both?

A doula offers non-medical care providing informational support, emotional support, physical support, partner support, and advocacy. A midwife is your medical care provider, and although some aspects of care do overlap, our services are very different.

Working with both a midwife and a doula makes for a great experience! A doula is by your side throughout your entire birth, and a midwives are not always continuous support. Ask your midwife how she practices, and how a midwife and doula can collaborate!

Do I need a doula if I have a supportive partner?

Yes! I am there to support your partner as much as I am are there to support you. Having a doula also allows your partner to be more present and focused on you. To read more about this, check out my blog

I want to work with you but don’t know if I can afford it. Do you provide payment plans?

I do not want price to be a deterrent from hiring me. I have implemented a sliding scale, and am always happy to do a payment plan after the initial deposit is paid.

Do you only attend unmedicated births?

I support you no matter what your goals are, and no matter where you are giving birth! I attend births at the hospital, the birth center, and at home. No matter where you are giving birth, what your intentions are, or how your birth unfolds, I am there for you. I have no goal or agenda, other than for you to feel supported and informed.

Mentorship

Can I mentor with you if I don’t live locally?

Absolutely! I offer virtual mentorship for people anywhere.

Can I shadow you at a birth?

Maybe! This depends on the level of interest from my clients. Attending a birth with me, or another experienced doula, is a possibility but not a guarantee.

Why is mentoring with you different than other mentorships?

I believe that my mentorship is exceptional because of my beliefs around birth work, and the experience that I bring to the table. I feel strongly that you do not need to martyr yourself or your time to be a great birth worker, that grind culture is a product of white supremacy, and that there are ways to be an incredible doula while maintaining strong boundaries and trusting your intuition through the process. I believe that your time is valuable and that you need to be compensated fairly, and that what you charge should be based more on your level of experience rather than what you have paid to a certification organization.

The mentorship that I offer is personalized, non-judgmental, and deeply intuitive. I meet you where you are at, with no expectations and agenda for you, but rather am extremely flexible to you and your needs.

Do you help me become certified?

If certification is your goal, absolutely! I am a certified doula, but I do not think that you need to be certified to offer amazing care.

How long does it take to become a doula?

It can take a while, but that’s ok! It took me nearly 3 years to become a full time doula, during which I worked as a nanny, worked at coffee shops and restaurants, and farmed. It does not happen overnight, but with dedication and consistency, it WILL happen!

Everyone’s path is different, and I will help you figure out the next steps and ways to meet your goals- whether that is doing this work full time, attending a birth occasionally, or something else all together.

SHOP & HERBS

Where do you source your herbs?

Most of the herbs in my products I grow myself, and those that I don’t are purchased from organic and high quality sources. All flower essences are made from fresh flowers on or near the land where I live in Weaverville, NC.

Are all of your products safe for pregnancy?

If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, check with me before purchasing any product you are not absolutely certain about. All flower essences are safe for everyone.

What is your typical turn around time on orders?

All orders are shipped out within 5 business days.

Do you offer herbal mentorship?

I incorporate herbal support into my mentorship, but it is not an herbal mentorship and does not replace herb school.

I highly recommend checking out Terra Sylva, Chestnut School of Herbal Medicine, and Aviva Romm’s Herbal Medicine for Women if you would like to explore an herbal education.

What’s the difference between an essence, tincture, and hydrosol?

A flower essence contains the energy of a flower or plant, and does not contain any physical constituents of the plant. For this reason, it is safe for everyone. Essences are for helping with energetic and emotional concerns or imbalances.

A tincture is the physical and medicinal component of a plant extracted in high proof alcohol. It is for helping with physical or psychological ailments.

A hydrosol is technically a byproduct of making essential oils, so it is essential water. The water is infused with the aroma of the plant.
